Sport involvement throughout the lifespan: the foundation of a person-centered approach

Sport involvement throughout the lifespan: the foundation of a person-centered approach presented by Dr. Jean Cote recorded on 15th March 2015.

Dr. Jean Cote a world-renowned professor and director in the School of Kinesiology and Health Studies at Queenís University at Kingston in Canada, will focus on his research in to youth sport, coaching, sport expertise and positive youth development. It will present a vision for sport, which assumes that involvement in sport includes three basic elements; activities, relationships and setting.

Sports most likely to achieve this usually include a mix of adult-led and youth-led practices and take place in a setting that is not overly populated. Athletesí relationships can also be empowering, but this depends on the leadership principles and quality of the relationships, for example with their coaches or parents.

Research in this area will be discussed, along with practical suggestions to enhance the design of sport programs.
